I have 2 sets of wheels for the car, and 2 sets for the van. Big Smile I start every winter with a fresh set of tyres on the van, as the ones from last year will be half worn so not worth bothering with. I leave 'em with my tyre fitter and he sells them part worn or whatever, or chucks 'em. The car ones last better and are okay for this winter as well, but my van is my livelyhood and I need to be able to get about.

     How much were they Rusty?

I was looking at buying a set of Vredstein Snowtrac 3s. How long of a time do you wear them in winter?

Do you really like it? Is it is it wicked?

Cheap set of (straight) steel wheels shouldnt be too bad 2nd hand. Just have to make sure they are 100%

Those 4 tyres (175-65-14 for the van, mind you) were £180 delivered. Then a fiver a wheel for fitting.

I'll get 'em mounted some time soon, then generally I change to the winter tyres about the end of October. I run them until March or so when it starts to warm up.

The Vredestein snowtrac's for the car - are a 195/65 R15, and they were £280 delivered. And then the same to fit them.

Which website did you buy from?

Camskills mate. Always use them, but last year they were out of stock of any tyres in my two sizes, so I had to buy from another online place for the car, and the van I got some Marshalls fitted at the local place. I have to say that both Marshalls and Toyos are great in snow, but I'd always have Toyos in preference as they are far superior in dry cold conditions. The Marshalls bloody scared me on dry roads, but they love snow.

When it comes to winter i always make sure my motor has 4 brand new tyres on, albeit Falken 912s but tyres with plenty of tread do make a MASSIVE difference.

I'm glad winter's coming as it means the end of a pretty rubbish year for me. Bring on 2012.

I bought a set of 15" steel wheels lastnight from a local vw forum member. Quite a good deal, 4 steel wheels, and 4 audi hub caps (naff i know) for £40. Camskill didnt have any 195/65 R15s in stock at all. Same prices though as another website that has them.

Hi, first post (sorry for the lack of an introduction so far).

What are the recommended winter tyres for an S3? And how much should I be looking at paying? Phoned the dealers earlier and was quoted £191 per tyre, fully fitted. That was for Goodyears but not sure which one, though I did ask - twice - for winter tyres.

Ive taken my winter wheels off and stored them away till next winter. IMO winter tyres are for <= 7 degress. Over here atleast its well above that everyday now.
