    mite as well eh?

swapped the anni for the audi on sat,

so got set about giving it a good clean, the outside tbh is very clean, i was going to run the buffer over it but, at the moment and lack of sun it seems fine, i may give it a final going over though, so just paid interest to the interior, wet vac'd the seats and treated the rubbers, wheels tyres and dressed the engine bay

here she is, little rear rake but that will get sorted next week

as with any car i have there are bits i need to do to get it up to scratch

its not been serviced for nearly 20k, now its on long life anyway so will be going back to normal as i do very low milage

    bits ordered:

oil and filter, fuel filter, arb bushes for the front, it also has a few engine trims missing too, so replacing them, total comes to £90 ish+vat, so not cheap but will make a whole load of difference, just hop it stops the front knocking

What mileage is it Jake? Seems like you got a good deal there.

Other than the service and the bits of trim, does it need much else?

I bought mine jake 4 1/2'years ago with 100k on it and it was on longlife servicing. 17-18k Mls services. I took it off longlife and instead service it every 6-7.5k with longlife Oil.

thanks for the info steve, have ordered all the appropriate bits from vw.

just spent the last three hours winding the suspension up, i now have a grazed leg and bilster in my palm from the c spanner, fronts were very easy but by god are the rears a pita!! everything has to be dropped down, then compress the spring to get the adjuster in and out,

overall i have raised the suspension one inch on the adjusters, i have a full tank in the car too, there very deceptive these a4's as the back arch is lower than the front lol, but a tape measure shows 56cm all round, hopefully it will be enough as i aint doing the back again lol

    next little project was this:

look at the state of them, cheap carwash acid app

    so a quick flat,

then a couple coats of renault grey met trim paint job done

well the back still needs to come up :( hope now the adjusters are up i can atleast get to them in situe, as there were a nightmare, also the tanks is full to so there is alot of weight there, only problem i run into then it the spring is that compressed theres no give, im contemplating putting the old spring back in,

surprisinly this car has more annyoing knocks than the golf, bummer

I suppose with that amount of fuel your talking 10-20mm? Those link arms for the suspension are expensive enough, i hope its ARB bushings and not the suspension arms!

could be i suppose and its over the back axel, i may just use half a tank and see the different,

im hoping arb also, as i really cant be bothered to rip the suspension apart, but if it has to so be

i may clean the egr, no doubt its gunked up,

i remeber skoda made a upgraded gasket for them which pretty much blocked the egr bar a 5mm hole in the centre to smooth the drive out, but satify the ecu

    done another little fettle,

passanger headlamp had a scrape to it, quite a bad one actually,

used 2000 grit to flat the majority out

then polished it back up with 3m fastcut, theres a slight improvement, most of the graze has gone but the gouge is still there

and this is the ride height im at at the moment

i went from a chipped tdi anniversary to a 1.8t avant

I am learning to get used to not much torque compared to the tdi but i am really liking it and feels more solid then the mk4

How are you feeling about yours?

well i have had a 1.9tdi passat which is a simular suspension setup, the golf has air ride which i fitted, and tbh the audi rattles alot more suspension wise, power wise for me you can never compare petrol to deisel just not fair. the a4 does have enough grunt for daily driving, and both cars suited my driving sytle, the 2.0tdi certainly behaves better round town than the passat did, but i have a feeling the 6 speed box is helping, the passat had the 5 speed box,

i find first gear in the audi a little short and laggy so needs a quick change, but im sure changing driving styles will help.

all in all they were both nice cars, but totally different haha

Can you change the settings in VCDS so that the egr doesnt open? I thought it wouldnt get a code then...?

yeah it should be, its anything newer than edc15 that cant be changed im lead to believe

decided to machine the full car, i wasnt going to but it was full of water spots and you could feel contamination on the surface, there were a few heavy scratches in the clear so i decided to hit the paint very hard

    process was:

9" lambs wool on intermediate pad combined with 3m fastcut plus(greentop)

6" yellow 3m sponge pad with 3m fine polish yellow top

6" yellow 3m sponge pad with 3m finesse final stage polish

then a quick wipe down, and a wash to remove all the debris from the lambs wool,

    ag hd wax

the car has come out really well, im pretty sure the new sleak surface will give an additional 5mpg too

rest of the bits came in from tps today,

washer jet covers, fog surrounds and plate holder, fitted them and then decided to clean the egr,

my god, i have never seen so much caked on crud in my like some areas were a good 1/2" thick lol, about half hour later the were gleeming, so did the bits of the manifold i could see on the car and put it back together. then added some forte deisel treatment to the tank for the injectors.

    quite a productive dinner

    jake
