This is my fourth car, it all started with a Peugeot 306 XTDT which was fun to drive but not all that safe or nice due to being french Big Smile Fully specced out for it's age though. That went after 6 months of driving for a Golf Mk4 1.9 TDi 90PS which was GT spec inside (Build Thread HERE) After another 12 months that went in exchange for a Golf Mk4 1.9 GT TDi 115PS (Build Thread HERE)

Now onto my current car, it's an 2004 54 Reg Audi A3 2.0 TDi S-Line 140PS DSG S-Tronic with 48K on the clock. It had a good amount of extras as standard full S-Line, xenon's, sunroof, auto lights/wipers, premium Bose, non-smoking pack and storage pack.

    The day I bought it:

Overall in very good nick apart from the wheels which were ruined! So that's where I started, booked it in with Rimtec got all four refurbished in the form of a powder coating in semi-matte black:

S3 DSG Gear knob and Custom iPhone 3Gs Mount fitted, cruise control fitted, TPMS fitted as well as S-Line Multifunction Steering wheel with red stitching:

One that's not for the feint of heart updating to the newer style key, being brave enough to cut your old key up for the transponder when its the only one you have is one of my specialities Stick out tongue

My photo's died out here, I will update this with the mods that I have done but for now I then added ambient lighting inside and 09 facelift LED style rear lights.

Today I undertook the next stage of what I have planned. I began to facelift the car to the later style S-Line front. After some careful hunting I began working on the bumper:

I then added an S-line Grille to the mix:

    and assembled:

Took the old front bumper off ready for the new one:

Bumper on without grilles or numberplate holder:

    EDIT 1/02/10

The front is all on and done, only thing left to do is fit my headlight washer covers when they are finished being sprayed:

    Joe

Cars looking good Joe, just a couple of questions if i may?

The front bumper and bonnet are dead easy to remove, takes about an hour if you know what you are doing. Guide HERE.

Ambient lighting is similar to the W8 light from a Mk4 golf. Except on an A3 you buy just the LED's and fit them to your current interior light. Costs about £10 iirc. Lots of DIY info HERE (This should definitely be a Sticky somewhere here, so much good info)

And as for the sticker... thats a given, gonna order me one of those Big Smile

    More pics coming later tonight!

I read somewhere that you need to change the bonnet to fit the new shaped bumper to the older models? Is that an original S-line bumper or a aftermarket lookalike?

Oh is that for the newest one. I just wanted to know if you can put the big grill onto the older models 2004 without too much modification, and by the looks of this thread you can :) Great news.

Don't be sorry, best news EVER. Now i don't have too sped more money on a A3 with the big grill, ill just buy an S-line one and stick it on :)

Where did you get that bumper, and what one is it? Just for future reference.

You need more than just new bumper, you also need an updated bonnet and headlight washer covers. To go to a non S-Line front you can do it cheaply, but good luck doing it cheaply to go to the bumper I have. It's been about 4 months of collecting parts to get it going. The fog lights and grilles are £150 from Audi. Grille is £180 with Numberplate holder (S-Line Version). Bonnet is £179 and bumper itself is £236 all this without paint. You need to start finding parts and getting LUCKY! or getting a loan haha

Overall it cost me £490, after a lot of hunting!

Have a read of the A3 section of Audi-Sport.net, all the info is there.

    Joe

Still not bad, i would rather spend the 500 on buying the car first then doing the conversion later. Thanks for the link, a lot of good stuff on there. Yes
