i am wary or the white alcantara interior but it is gorgeous, i look after my cars pretty well tho (ask tony danza who bought my mk5 gti on uk-mkivs) so im hoping i'll get away with it, also its been autoglym lifeshined which is supposed to cover it against stains for 10 years.

Absolutely stunning, although I'd expect nothing less given the "as new" state of your old one I bought.

How are you finding the differences blarting round your home turf in the S3 compared to the Golf?

Them pics are before i polished it too, you should see it now, lol.

Im loving it on the bumpy roads round my area, id forgotten how much better the traction is with 4wd plus its been wet for the last week and a half so its been a double bonus. im still trying to get in the knack of driving slow in/fast out to use the haldex to its full potential, but when i do its awesme round the bends and you can feel the rear drive doing its work compared to the fwd golf.

compared to the golf it dosent feel that much quicker and there is a bit of lag untill boost comes in with a bang at 3k unlike the gti which feels as though its in all the time, however the s3 is alot stronger at the top end and blasts up to silly speed with ease. The handling is very good as standard but the steering can feel a bit light at times compared to the golf which was about perfect. The interior is a level up from the golf and is a truly nice place to be with the leather and alcantara, the bose stereo is a nice step up too, however the gti seats were a fair bit better than the s3's at holding you and let you sit lower.

i did a comparison on a disused road where i know the gti will hit 100mph by the bridge and the s3 did 110mph by the same bridge, this therefore is already the fastest car ive had up to the bridge and that includes my chipped 225 tt, my chipped mk4 r32. christ knows what it'll do with another 50 odd bhp.

I even managed to get 40mpg out of it the other day in traffic on a 30 mile run, so its not even worse on juice than the golf like i thought it would be.(ok its a little worse when you use its full potential, lol.)

    That's not polished??

I'll look forward to seeing it done properly then, no doubt you'll have the paint depth guage out and wax that comes in its own wooden presentation case Yes

I know what you mean about that 4WD, you can bury the pedal and they just slingshot you out of corners before you could even think about it in a FWD.

I'm going to have some camber dialled into the front end of mine in a few weeks, so hopefully that'll improve its power delivery and change the under-steer/torque-steer characteristics.. not that it has that much anyway, but loose is fast and rubbin's racin'!

I've seen a couple of the new A3's in white lately actually and i think they are looking pretty sweet...

     Hiya mate,

Now that you're a couple of months in, just wondering how you are finding the car from the whole ownership proposition thing? any regrets, best points etc?

And i know it's a bit of a daft question with a 300BHP car, but how you finding the MPG with regular everyday driving? Prices are now starting to come down to very tempting levels Wink

    Cheers

Other than a couple of niggly problems which got a bit out of hand with audi im absolutely loving the car, when i first got it the blue tooth needed sorted out which was just a damaged ariel, then recently a misfire problem which some stp injector cleaner fixed, and the worst one was a small misfire at idle which didnt really effect the car and probably didnt really need fixed but audi had my car over 2 weeks and eventually replaced the injectors and ecu.

i wouldnt worry about the problems above tho as i just fell unlucky and its all sorted under warranty.

On a day to day basis where i do short comutes i get 30 mpg average, on long runs at a responsible pace i get 35-36mpg, for example we went up to loch ness and fort william etc the other month and it averaged 36mpg for over 800 miles.

Anyhow back to the induction kit, it was a bit fiddly to fit as you have to remove the inner wheel arch to fit the cone but its not that hard really and only took me and me mate 2 hrs max.

It sounds quite subtle actually only slightly increasing the turbo noise in normal driving  and giving a nice turbo suck when pulling fast through 3-5k rpm you occasionally get a bit of wastegate flutter sound which sounds a bit like an old sierra cosworth rally car, anyhow i like.

Im currently just running it on the standard map as i havent been back up to star performance for my map to be added to my new ecu and already i can feel a difference with the intake, it pulls alot stronger through the top of the rev range already. i  cant wait till tuesday when my map goes back on and i can see what the combo of the 2 is like.

Re the remap this time im getting it rollered before and after to check its all healthy before the map, fingeres crossed. i'll try and scan some plots in afterwards if i can figure out how to do it.

Anyhow a coupe of pics of the forge intake, oh and r8 oil cap, lol.

ps i also had a punture on the motorway and didnt even realise for about 5 miles at 90 mph so it shows how stable the haldex system is, anyhow heres how the tyre turned out..

Very good system then, you're lucky you weren't in the ditch by the edge of the m/way Tongue Tied

How mine's that good if I ever get a problem like that (gawd forbid!)

    C

PS - I know you're pain about dealing with Audi too... I've pretty much given up.

Shocking pic of the tyre, very lucky given the speed involved.  Even more so given that there is no wheel damage.  Loving the induction kit and can't believe that you can get 36 mpg from an S3

Well as alot of you will know ive had a bit of trouble with my s3 of late, anyhow to cut a long story short audi replaced my ecu and injectors to fix a misfire problem i was having. due to this i needed to have my giac remap redone on the new ecu.
Today i hve been up to star performance in kircaldy to have the new ecu flashed with jims map (not the hammer map) and to get the car rolling roaded to check all was well.

    anyhow heres the results.......

As you can imagine im pretty chuffed with the resultsParty!!!

It just goes to show what a good map and a decent intake kit can do to free up the s3. as far as im concerned thats enough power without troubling the fuel pump and i dont think i'll be adding anything else as it'll mean i'll need to add the uprated fuel pump as well.

Btw it made nearly 300bhp as standard with just the intake but we forgot to print the graph.

Cheers for the update mate Yes

So very tempted by an S3 at the moment as prices have come down to attractive levels now imo, only fly in the ointment is my wifes 50 mile a day commute and the warm fuzzy glow of 2 years cheap diesel motoring we've had lol,

No stranger to a healthy Optimax habit as i had a MKV GTI before the A3 so although it's gonna be a good bit more thirsty it wont come as too much of a shock hopefully and it's good to know you can get good economy out of the S3 if needed, is that using the reduced output GIAC map at all or running with the full hit?

    Cheers

    Steve

Thats running the full monty as i found the reduced bhp map dosent really make it any better on fuel.

I drove up to star performance today which is 160 miles had 3 rolling roads done, a test drive and drove back home 160 miles, total average 33mpg.
