I'm due to replace two tyres on my 52 plate Audi A4 (205 55 R16's)

Can anyone make and decent recommendations?
So far I've got Michellin Primacy HP, which are more than what I want to pay really. I went to one garage today and they offered me Maragoni's for £80 each and I've come across some Yokohama C Drive's for £65 each

    I do approx 300 miles a week

I get Michelin Primacy HP tyres fitted very carefully and with no wheel damage at my local tyre fitters for £89 a corner. Balanced, new valve, fitted, tyre carcass disposal, vat included.

Shop around and see what you can find if you want Michelins. Other than that, with winter coming along sometime soon, consider some Avon Ice Touring tyres, and don't let the weather slow you down (so to speak).

I've found some 205/55 R16 Michellin Primacy HP's 91V's on one website, two for £155 which includes all fitting and balancing etc

Check the load rating you need. I fit 94 on mine with it being a diesel. The 91 rated tyres are a load cheaper due to them being less of a tyre.

I always bang budget tyres on, I think it is just another way to rip people off, I don't drive silly so why do i need performance tyres, that is my thinking behind it,

I can understand the logic behind better tyres for stopping better, but the only way I know what a good tyre i, is because the manufacturer, who wants my money, is telling me the better tyre is the more expensive one. Course it is, Best bet I think is to go one ste up from budget if you are wearery of budget tyres.

Yeah I know what you mean, as I've usually gone for budget tyres in the past.

    I could either go for;

    • 2 x Michellin Primacy HPs for £155
    • 2 x Firestone TZ300's for £125
    • 2 x Falken FK452's for £119
The Falkens on Tyrereviews.co.uk seem quite high for budget tyres. Anyone tried them?

The Falken FK452 is well thought of on Uk Mkivs, and also on Seat Cupra. Doesn't wear as well as the Michelin however, so overall nothing much between the two. By the time the two are costed side by side, they work out (£ per mile) at somewhere about the same as I remember.

Im yet be be convinced by the Falkens!

A new set was fitted to my ed30 before i bought it... traction seems "OK", they didnt seem that good in the rain last night but i was hoofing it!

for that price tho, you cannot argue even if performance isnt 100%

    its a website called http://www.macsamstyres.co.uk/

You pay for your tyres on the web and they send them to a local garage, you just turn up at an arranged time to get them fitted free. The prices include tyres, fitting, balancing, valve, disposal and VAT. I've heard good things from them and was recommended to the site. Yet to try it, but this will be first time

I really wouldnt go for budget tyres. Ive had them on my golf years ago and they were dangerous. Understeer at roundabouts. Never again, especially as family drive the car most of the time.

Ive got Dunlops Sport 01's the last couple of tyre changes and i swear by them.

Do you really like it? Is it is it wicked?

I used to always go for Kuhmo's as they were a great cheapish tyre, but the last set I put on the golf were Kuhmo Ecsta 712's and they were good in the dry but awful in the wet.

When I got my 18's for the Audi I had Falken ZE912's fitted. A mid range tyre price wise but they give great performance in both the dry and wet. Highly recommended.

In 205/55/16 they are £95 delivered for a pair from Camskill

Golf has now gone. Modded the A4 130 TDi Sport with Votex kit, custom grill, tints, 18's, joey'd lights, HIDs and ambient and puddle lighting so far.

If i was to buy tyres like that, how many garages will just fit them for me? How much does fitting usually cost?

I have had a pair fitted and balanced by a Formula 1 garage near where I work for £20 cash (no receipt)

I get mine done on the van, the cars winter wheels, and the daughters car for £5 each. Steel wheels (other than the old alloys for winter on the car) so no chance of any damage really. I prefer not to give the guy my good alloys on the car and pay cash, as if he does something wrong and damages them then he's in an awkward situation where he feels obliged to correct the damage out of his own pocket. If I was paying the usual fitting charge then he'd be able to run the repairs through the business.

Not that I have any doubt about his work, mind you. But I'd rather neither of us had to worry about a slight nick on the wheels which needed sorting.
