I have removed the cap where the jets are but after this i am stumped.

Hi, Im Jason from South Wales, I've been searching through mostly the US forums for information then found this site in the UK so decided to join. My car is an Audi 1.8t B5...but its an N plate which im told is one of the very first :) shes getting old now but still drives perfect like an audi should :)

Looking to buy an A3

Hi. New to the forum, have come over from uk-mkiv as was thinking about buying a MK4 GT TDI (amongst others) but settled on an A3.

Looking for a 2.0 TDi Sport, 3 door, manual, 2004/2005 plate with decent mileage. Looking to spend £7-8k and preferably from a dealer as have a car to part-ex and would like the warranty.

Looking around for info and buying advice and have a couple of questions (please point me in the right direction if already answered elsewhere):

- What are the main difference between the 2005 facelift model and the previous version (i can only see the front grill and the steering wheel)?

- I'd love a model with center armrest and cruise control - were both of these extras?

Any other useful tips and advice for buying an A3 much appreciated!

So far I've got Michellin Primacy HP, which are more than what I want to pay really. I went to one garage today and they offered me Maragoni's for £80 each and I've come across some Yokohama C Drive's for £65 each

Scott from porsche sollihull showed me this on saturday,its long but interesting,the 911 gt3r they entered in a 24hr race and after 21 laps it was 2 laps ahead( thats to say the laps were about 12miles long at a nurenburg kind of circuit thats not a bad result),only reason it didnt finish is the gearbox broke near the end he thought,but very clever and the spyder is amazing

Hi guys,

I'll soon be in the market for some new wheels, I want to go with 18's for comfort and cost of tyres, would like to avoid lowering it as ride will be compromised... so i think 18's are the way to go.

Was thinking of some BBS LM reps, but they look teeny in 18" flavour as the spokes don't go all the way to the edge of the rim.

Could some of you guys with Avant's (ideally black) post some pics to give me some ideas?

Number Plate Light Problem

Guys, New to the forum after purchasing an 05 plate sportback sport, also new to audi's. Been replacing the front sidelight bulbs and number plate bulbs for led's, the front sidelights I replaced with canbus friendly ones off ultraleds which work a treat, no errors, I forgot to get canbus friendly number plate leds, as a result I got the usual flicker and off it went, I managed to get them work but only when a normal bulb was used alongside the led, decided to put the originals back in, but neither of them come on now, just get the message that the bulbs are out on the dash, double checked the connections on the bulbs and all seem well, seems like the system has got confused, even tried the battery off for ten mins, no difference, any pointers ? Also had it on a diag machine at the weekend and it flags up fault in circuit, voltage on that circuit is just under a volt, tested the bulbs and they are fine, so something is not happy.

How to apply the Innotec turbo cleaner

Car - A3 2.0 TDI 2005

Mileage - 82000

Undo the jubilee clip between the turbo and exhaust, then bend the jubilee outwards so that you can see the clips (there are 3) underneath the jubilee clip. Use a flat head screw driver to remove the top clip, then use the *claw of a hammer to remove the bottom one and finally remove the last one.

*I found using the claw of the hammer the best tool for this.

You will end up with this.

I then undid the 2 bolts holding the exhaust so that i could move it out of the way slightly (use a bit of WD40 on them if they are stuck)

DON'T LOSE the gasket between the exhaust and turbo.

To stop the exhaust from moving around i taped it to the silver pipes.

Next cover the turbo so that the Innotec cleaner will not leak out when applied. You can do what it suggest in the instruction. But people have reported that the cardboard supplied is not very good at this.

I used a slice of thick bin liner which i put over the turbo and secured it with a jubilee clip (i put a thin strip of linoleum between the clip and the bin liner to make a secure seal). I also put tape over it so that it wouldn't tear easily when i made a hole for the tube. I also taped hat up to prevent lelaking. (I used these materials because i couldn't find anything better for the job you might be able to do better, but it did do the job)

You can use anything you like as long as it can prevent the fluid from flowing out and allow you to put the application tube in.

*Also you might want to put a small hole at the top of the seal so that any trapped air can escape and more of the Turbo cleaner 1 can flow inside.

I then put Turbo cleaner 1 in, approx 25% in at first for 20 min and during this i moved the variable geometry lever as often as i could. After this i put the rest of the cleaner in until it started pouring out and left it for 1hr.

After 1hr i removed the turbo cover and put a tray under it. Not much Turbo cleaner 1 came out. I then used Turbo cleaner 2 and sprayed it inside to remove Turbo cleaner 1 as much as i could.

Finally i poured Turbo cleaner 3 into the fuel filter, you might want to change the fuel filter too if it hasn't been changed for a while.

Now reverse the process to put everything back together.

Conclusion after 50miles of driving

Before using the poduct my car would pull and then i would feel the boost come in at 3000rpm. Now the power is more linear, and the boost doesnt come as suddenly. It feels much smoother and power does come in at 2000rpm.

I still need to give it a few more miles to see the full effect, but i am very happy with the result.

Active coming home lights or whats needed?

As the above i spoke to a kid on audisport with the same car and he said he just activated his with vagcom but i never asked him whats needed ie auto lights etc,steve at statller had a look earlier but he thought it also needed the auto lights etc which mine hasnt got,does anyone know whats needed and what parameters we need to look at

Flap valve problems

I have a problem with the flap valve on my A3 When I took it apart it was full of engine oil? It also had a couple of broken teeth.

I am concerned if I replace it with a new one it will also fail due to oil contamination.

Anybody got any ideas as to how the oil got in.

I have been running the car with the vacuum hose disconnected from the EGR for about a year so as not to foul up the inside of the EGR again.

Also the hot starting is c**p I have replaced the CTS but it has not helped.

Been trawling the web for a cheap Hard Disc Drive video camera. Seen some Sony and JVC stuff which has caught my eye more than anything else, but I dunno if there's any particular models to watch out for or any pitfalls etc.

Anyone interested in this sort of thing have any pointers. As a guide, I've been looking at and bidding on Ebay this morning, and was bidding on this with a limit of £65. Link.

If I was a bit more proficient on Ebay and knew to press another button after I'd made a bid then I might've bought one earlier, but I sat there looking at the screen while it told me I hadn't actually placed a bid and wondered why it hadn't feckin done what I told it. Then the auction ended....

How do i get the exhaust off the turbo?

Hi guys, ive bought the Innotec turbo cleaner and am trying to put it through the trubo.

Only problem is that every guide ive read says remove 3 bolts holding the exhaust to the turbo, but when i had a look yesterday i couldnt see any bolts just a jubille clip holding the exhaust to the turbo.

Anybody have any experience with the turbo on a A3 2.0 TDI 2005, and could give me any help?

Heres a picture from the instruction manual, theres the 3 bolts and the exhaust on the side.

Petrol head going sensible, and turning to diesel....?????

Hi Guys,

Just signed up, looks like a neat forum! Im a GTI Driver! for the past 5 years plus! But in those 5 years ive picked up points, a wife, kids and a house! So time to swap the GTI for a TDI!!!!!
Just cant make my mind up on what to go for? A Passat, Superb or an A4 B6 TDi Avant....

The Audi looks the best and probably is in everyway! apart from the cost!

But what the hell! now i know im going for an Audi, its which one....

Definately the sport, but Quattro or 2wd? decision decisions! Please help and advise all....

Miltek Cat-Back for RS4 V8

Hi.

Does anybody know if the resonated Miltek Cat-Back (without valves) is liable to cause drone on the B7 RS4 4.2 V8?

I have a magnaflow system on my Passat W8, and there is no drone at all. I tried a similar system on my now-sold Passat R36 and it droned really really badly. I don't want to make the same expensive mistake again if I can help it... I ended up binning the R36 system..

The CD manual I bought fro E bay does not work and the Haynes manual does not cover this engine.

Haven't been around as much lately as I've had this project ongoing.

Ever since I was a young boy, I've wanted to fly planes. It's been my dream.

I'm now fortunate enough to be living the dream.

I recently became the proud owner of a Piper Tri-Pacer.

It's not all been plain-sailing (excuse the pun) - she had some damage to the tail so I took the opportunity to dismantle and rebuild her.

My skills have been put to the test with this little project but I think I've done pretty well.

Now, I should say that I've made this look easy but this isn't a project for the faint-hearted or those lacking some expertise.

If you decide to have a crack at this, its very rewarding but be warned - it's also a long road.

Piper Tri Pacer - the rebuild

I didn't take any pics of the dismantling stages (it only later dawned on me that some of you might be interested in this project) but to be honest, she was in a pretty sorry state.

Onto the rebuild stage:

The parts were laid out so that I could gauge the enormity of the task before me:

This is where the wing will be fitted. I suspect this will be quite time consuming.

Front wing fitted.

This is where the main area of damage is. You might be able to see the damage to the rear wing housing. I successfully repaired this using sticky tape. Care must be taken to not use too much tape, weighing the plane down.

I have an A3 Sportback Sport with lots and lots of factory extras on it. (07 Plate)

I was giving the car a good detail today and was vaccing out the boot with the stereo on. I stuck my head in the boot and the bass was really intense and seemed to be coming from the nearside panel in the boot area.

I have the Symphony II+ stereo which is a 6 CD Changer (MP3) but non the speakers have the little bose badges on them.

Does anyone know if you have a sub, you must have BOSE or did Audi do a non BOSE system which came with a sub in the boot. I havent peeled off the panel yet as it looks a swine to remove, but there is definitely somethign back there.

I must say it does sound pretty good, albeit the wife moans that it defeaning our little one !

I need a small cable in the passenger seat (allows the seat to slide once tilted) popped into my local Audi but the only possible item we could find in the short time i was there he ordered for me but it wasn't right once it turned up.

Figured i'd do my own investigations lol

When I start my tdi, the small fan (left hand side from front of bonnet) comes on after about 30 seconds and runs constantly, is this supposed to happen?

It makes quite a lot of noise and is noticable when driving, what is it for?

The work was carried out on the owners’ car whilst they were away – not a bad surprise to come home to, hey?

Shortly before setting off:

As expected, upon arrival, it was still raining.

A few general befores:

Wet-work was done in the waterproofs. It didn’t stop raining for the best part of the morning.

Engine was sorted first: G101, various brushes and a light rinse.
Wheels: Megs Wheel Brightener and G101 up into the archs/tyres

Washed down with Born To Be Mild and contaminants lifted with the Elite Poly Clay bar.

Severity of defects:

Paint readings were all over the place. 300+ on most panels.

Due to some nastier marks, the bonnet received a few hits with 85RD 3.02 and a compounding pad. Refining down with 106fa and a polishing.

With that out of the way, I continued to work down the N/S of the car and work my way back.

Taking a wee break from machine work, I turned more attention to the engine bay. Dressing appropriate areas with AutoGlym’s Vinyl and Rubber Care.

Tailgate before and after: (note the ’grey haze’ disappearing which was caused by the mass of swirls)

Light clusters polished with Menz 85RD 3.02 and an Orange Hexlogic spot pad. Lots of clarity being put back into them…

Testing my new ‘portrait panning’ techniques with the camera and sporting my new safety-wear!

After the machine work was complete the paint received an IPA wipe to remove all oily traces left by the polish residues.

BlackFire Wet Diamond was then used to seal the paintwork.

Tyres were dressed. Glass was cleaned inside and out.

After a bit of light interior work and some seat cleaning, the car was shaping up nicely.

Water extracted whilst cleaning the front two seats:

And the sun shines for the finished article.

Much better.
